WP Engine is a recommended premium WordPress hosting provider for super duper fast performance. Its package is pricy because it is a managed hosting service solution. The company dedicates resources in providing added service specially for WordPress than regular hosting companies do. Therefore, when I came across this “Disallowed Plugins” page on their support page, I feel I must share it.
This is not the complete list, for the complete list and explanation, you can visit “Disallowed Plugins“. You can certainly ignore some of the plugins in Caching, Backup & Duplicate Behavior categories. They are banned by WP Engine because some features are build-in in their package. If your site is hosted somewhere else, it is recommended to have both Caching & Backup plugins.
You may also don’t have to be bothered if your website is small with less content. Most plugins only show negative impact on performance when the website grows. It is good to have this list as a reference when performance is becoming a major concern.
